Instance Exercises
An “instance exercise” is an application of theory to practice. On the days that exercises are due, you will turn in the first page from a current (no older than 2 weeks) news article from a reputable source (ex: NY Times, Time magazine, primary foreign newspaper, or a government press release) attached to a 1-2 page (double spaced) explanation of how this article exemplifies a concept, idea, or theory covered in class. Seek out articles on issues we are currently covering. For the article you’ve selected, ask yourself: “What is this an instance (illustration) of?” Try to shy away from simply summarizing the article but instead showing how the article demonstrates a theory or concept from class. I’m looking for application of concepts, as well as critical thinking/writing skills on your part.
Please write as detailed as possible, ANALYZE the event instead of just summarizing it. Give out examples and explain them well.
