EFFECTIVENESS OF HIV EDUCATION IN THE MINORITY COMMUNITY

Evidence-Based Clinical Project Guidelines
PURPOSE
In this Capstone course, the student is required to produce a 10-12 page evidence-based clinical project
addressing a significant clinical issue. Using skills of inquiry gained in the baccalaureate nursing program,
the student will demonstrate an appreciation for diversity of the human experience in the development of
this project. Additionally, the project presents an opportunity for the student to demonstrate knowledge of
cultural values and ethical considerations and incorporate other disciplines from the health care team
when developing a plan for addressing a clinical nursing issue.
The first part of the project, the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I, provided the foundation
for this final paper, including the topic and an initial search of the literature. The student is now ready to
gather additional background information on the clinical problem and more deeply explore the literature
that addresses the issue and solution options. When developing the completed evidence-based project,
the student is expected to reflect on the knowledge and experience gained in the nursing program and to
continue to draw from the four domains of the NCLEX-RN examination blueprint: assurance of a safe and
effective care environment, health promotion and maintenance of health, and the preservation of the
patient’s psychosocial and physiological integrity

COURSE OUTCOMES
This assignment enables the student to meet the following course outcomes .
CO # 1: Synthesize knowledge from sciences, humanities, and nursing in managing the needs of
humans as consumers of healthcare in a patient-centered environment. (PO#1)
CO # 2: Integrate communication and relationship skills in teamwork and collaboration functioning
effectively with health team members and consumers of care. (PO#3)
CO # 3: Utilize information technology to manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision
making with health team members and consumers of care. (PO# 8)
CO # 4 Integrate critical thinking, clinical reasoning skills, best current evidence, clinical expertise,
and patient/family preferences/values in the implementation of the nursing process. (PO# 4)
CO # 5: Explore the impact of professional standards, legislative issues, ethical principles, and values
on professional nursing, using data to monitor outcomes and improve quality and safety. (PO#6)

TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE
380 points
Requirements
• Maximum of 10-12 pages excluding the title page and the reference page.
• The sources cited both in text and on the reference page for this assignment will be formatted
according APA 6th edition guidelines.
• A minimum of ten (10) peer-reviewed scholarly sources are required in support of the Capstone
Evidence-based Clinical Project paper.
• This assignment will be graded using the Capstone Evidence- based Clinical Project Rubric available
in Unit 6 of the course.

Preparing the Assignment
In this assignment, the student will incorporate faculty feedback received on the Capstone Evidence-based
Clinical Project Part I assignment, and will expand on the review of literature to more fully developing the
Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project.
With the exception of the Introduction, each criterion listed in the following Assignment Criteria table will serve
as the major headings of the assignment due in Unit Six and will include the following:
?

Title Page: (APA 6th edition formatting)

?

Introduction:
? Topic: In the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I assignment, the student identified
the topic of the clinical issue. The topic is a clinical problem drawn from the four domains of the
NCLEX-RN examination blueprint: assurance of a safe and effective care environment, health
promotion and maintenance of health, and the preservation of the patient’s psychosocial and
physiological integrity. Drawing from the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I
assignment the student will clearly introduce the topic in two to three paragraphs.
? Importance: In the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I assignment, the student
briefly explained the importance of the clinical problem to the health of the patient population.
In this paper, the student should expound on that discussion and provide additional details.

?

Patient Population: In the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I assignment, the student
described the patient population that is impacted by the clinical problem. In this paper the student
should expand on that description by also:
i. Summarizing the diversity of the human condition found within the patient population.
ii. Identifying the influence that cultural values may have on the plan for addressing the
clinical issue in this patient population.
iii. Expanding on the ethical considerations of the patient population.

Proposed Solution:
? In the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I assignment, the student set the stage for
proposing the best solution to the clinical problem by using appropriate evidence-based data
and integrating data from peer-reviewed journal articles. In this paper, the student will propose
a clear solution to the clinical problem that is supported by a minimum of four scholarly, peerreviewed journal articles.

?

Plan for the Implementation of the Project and Proposed Timeline:
? Goals: The student will develop a plan for implementing the proposed solution by
discussing a minimum of one short-term and one long-term goal. The student will include
the ways in which attainment of each of the goals will be measured.
? Barriers: The student will identify a minimum of two anticipated barriers to the success of
the implementation of the clinical project and plans for addressing them.
? Benefits: The student will describe a minimum of one benefit to the patient population
and one benefit to the nursing profession that will result from carrying out the clinical
project.
? Timeline: The student will provide details, including the timeline, of the major steps to be
taken for implementation of the clinical project.

?

Participants and Interdisciplinary Approach:
? The student will identify all of the parties who will be involved in the implementation of the
clinical project. This list will include a minimum of two members of a discipline outside of
nursing. A description of the benefit of including each member from another discipline to the
success of the project will be provided.

?

Implemented Solutions:
? In the Capstone Evidence-based Clinical Project Part I assignment, the student provided an
overview of three or more solutions to the clinical problem found in the literature. In this paper
the student will expand further upon the original solutions cited and evaluate the success of
each one. The solutions and evaluation of those solutions will be supported by a minimum of
five scholarly resources.

?

Conclusion:
? Provides a thorough recap of the purpose of the proposed project.
? Includes a complete statement describing why addressing this clinical problem matters and to
whom.
