Project
The assignments shall require that you conduct a more detailed analysis of a subject area than what is covered in our text. The papers shall be at 700+ words in length (excluding name and headings). Papers will be double spaced using Times New Roman (font size 12). Papers are expected to be free of typos and grammatical errors. Avoid using slang, unclear abbreviations etc. in the papers. The paper is worth 150 points. Your only reference will be the handout entitled: The Multiple Causes of the LAPD Rampart Scandal. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Plagiarism can lead to an automatic “F” in the course.
Papers should be 700+ words in length and shall reference the only the handout.A word countshall be included at the end of the paper and a reference section. Remember this is not a book report. This is a written analysis and critical review.
Scoring Rubric – 150 points total
• Length, grammar construction of paper – 25 points
o Paper less than 700 words, poor grammatical usage, poor document construction – 0- 7 points
o Paper 700 + words, many grammatical problems, moderate document construction 8 – 13 points
o Paper 700+ words, few grammatical problems, good paper construction 14 – 25 points
• Theoretical Sourcework – 25 points
o No theoretical component, insufficient cites used, internet sources, no bibliography, theory cited not explained. Uses no references, the wrong references (internet, Wikipedia) or uses the same cite repeatedly. 0 – 7 points
o Theoretical component lacking substance. Theory referenced but not explained mistakes with theory/citations. References not clearly marked. Some overlap on citations used. 8 – 13 points
o Well cited, four references well marked in the text including page numbers, Citations/theory cited correctly. Bibliography well documented. 14 – 25 points
• Critical thought 50 points
o No expansion of theory – no insight. Does not relate own experience/observations to paper. 0 – 20 points
o Some expansion of theory – little to moderate insight. Relates experience somewhat accurately. 21 – 30 points
o Expands theory to own experiences and observations. Questions/confirms text/citations with own insight. 31 – 50 points.
• Fits Assignment Parameters 50 points
o Assignment not followed. Does not address topics as noted. 0 – 20 points
o Follows some aspects of assignment, but does not address all topics sufficiently 21 – 30 points
o Addresses all aspects of assignments and goes beyond parameters as spelled out in the assignment 31 – 50 points
