LEARNING SET

In the Learning Set this week, you will continue to dialogue about your workplace-based problem. As you engage in the problematising process and begin taking action, consider how this week’s concepts and models inform your understanding of your workplace-based problem.
Engage with your Learning Set around the following questions regarding the claims you are making about the problem(s) in your particular environment or practice:

• What is your evidence or data to support the claim? – this allows you to support the claim and you can have several pieces of evidence to support a claim
• Does the evidence selected strongly or weakly support the claim, that is, does the claim combined with evidence make a good argument or proposition? Reflect on each combination of claim with evidence

Each combination of claim with evidence is justified by an assumption or warrant (see Gold, Holman & Thorpe 2002). The assumption makes a particular argument sensible but also provides you with a chance to consider your desires, values and emotions as well as your authority to make particular claims based on particular evidence. You might be able to bring into view your subjectivity and possible bias and, importantly, consider these more critically.
