Preventing Terrorism
Preventing Terrorism

My portfolio on the above should include the following areas of discussion on Preventing Terrorism :

1. An analysis of the Prevent strategy.

Prevent is one of four strands of the government’s counter-terrorism strategy, known as Contest.

Prevent is designed to support people at risk of joining extremist groups and carrying out terrorist activities.

The Prevent strategy has three objectives:

  • Challenging the ideology that supports terrorism and those who promote it,
  • Protecting vulnerable people,
  • Supporting sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalization.

2. An overview of the The history of terrorism

The history of terrorism is a history of well-known and historically significant individuals, entities, and incidents associated, whether rightly or wrongly, with terrorism.

Scholars agree that terrorism is a disputed term, and very few of those labeled terrorists describe themselves as such.

It is common for opponents in a violent conflict to describe the other side as terrorists or as practicing terrorism.

3. What is radicalization: the social construction of risk and threat?

Radicalization is a process through which people become
increasingly motivated to use violent means against members
of an out-group or symbolic targets to achieve behavioral
change and political goals.

4. Narratives and counter narratives – grievance as a legitimizing tool for extremist

5. Democracy: freedoms enshrined in human and cultural rights.

Measures to ensure respect for human rights for all and the rule of law as the fundamental basis for the fight against terrorism

6. Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults

Those most vulnerable are people with mental health or learning disabilities who maybe more easily drawn into terrorism.
